The city and suburbs on Tuesday shivered as both day and night temperatures took a dip and the drop in mercury came accompanied with drizzle and light rains.
The winter, which has been playing hide and seek this season, finally gave a real sense of chill on the last day of the year. The temperatures plummeted, compared to last few days, and the the sun made vain bids to break through the blanket of thick clouds, even in the afternoon.
According to Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), on Tuesday, Shaikpet received a rainfall of 3 mm followed by Qutbullahpur (2.8 mm), Gajularamaram (2.5 mm) and Allwyn Colony (2 mm).
The forecast with TSDPS shows that light to moderate rain are expected at isolated places in the city for next two days. The minimum temperatures would be in the range of 17 degree Celsius to 18 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperatures to be in the range of 24 degree Celsius to 26 degree
Celsius.
The rains could gradually increase and widen their scope to cover more parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad. Rains are expected to continue until January 3, however, by that time, there is likely to be significant decrease in rainfall activities and the persisting confluence zone fading away from the State.
However, given the cloudy weather for most of the day, night temperatures could also rise in the city. According to Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, minimum temperatures would hover at 19 degree Celsius in the next two days, almost 4 degree Celsius above normal for the season.
“The minimum temperatures are expected to increase in parts of the State by 2-3 degree Celsius in the coming days, while maximum temperatures will subside due to rains and cloud cover. From January 4, weather activities will start to clear up and minimum temperatures will once again drop in the State”, the agency added.
