Three persons including a seven-year-old boy died and two others were injured when lightning struck them at Manajipet village in Wanaparthy district on Wednesday. While several parts of the State witnessed thundershowers, two spells of heavy rain pounded the capital during the day, even as the weatherman forecast thunderstorm, gusty winds and heavy rain at isolated places across the State in the next two days.
Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed several parts of the city triggering the usual scenario of traffic snarls and water-logging on major thoroughfares and in low-lying areas as well. The rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning, struck in two spells, one in the morning, and again, after a break in the afternoon.
By 4 pm, the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Realtime Automatic Weather Station at Monda Market registered a rainfall of 31.8 mm, while the one at Musheerabad registered 21.8mm. The Begumpet station registered 15.5mm while Asifnagar clocked 15mm. The weather stations at Malkajigiri, Trimulgherry, Srinagar Colony and Maitrivanam in Ameerpet also registered rainfall in double digits.
Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over Telangana State. While thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds is very likely to occur at isolated places over the next 24 hours, the officials also warned that heavy rain also is very likely to happen at a few places in all districts of the State on Friday.
