Lorry owners in Telangana are observing one day strike on Thursday supporting the call given by All India Motor Transport Congress against the new Motor Vehicle Act by the Centre. The Telangana Lorry Owners Association President N Bhaskar Reddy said that there were 2.7 lakh lorries in Telangana. The lorries would follow the strike.
According to the lorry owners, this is the off season for the lorries as the supply of cement, sand and other products goes down as there would be less orders. As a result presently, 30 to 40 per cent of the lorries
were taking the loads. The state association members have been demanding the government to have single permit system in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The State govt gave assurance to the lorry drivers on several occasions but nothing was done. Earlier the government in Andhra Pradesh was not cooperating but now the relations between two states are good hence the government should take necessary steps, said Bhaskar Rao. He also alleged that the State transport officials were also not cooperating in the issue.
