Hyderabad: To commemorate World Lupus Day, over 500 people from different walks of life participated in a ‘Lupus Walk 2017’ from Jalavihar at Necklace Road on Sunday.
The walk organised by Rheumatology Association, Hyderabad Chapter and Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), was aimed at spreading awareness about Lupus, an autoimmune disease wherein the body’s immunity becomes hyperactive and affects healthy tissues.
“Lupus causes wide
range of health complications including chest pain, join pains, ulcers, hair loss, allergy to sunlight and fatigue to mention a few. Unfortunately, the awareness levels globally are low because of which, either there is a delay in diagnosis or there is misdiagnosis of symptoms. It is a global health problem that affects people of all any age-group, demographic, gender, region and climatic condition,” said Dr Sarath Chandra Mouli, president, Rheumatology Association, Hyderabad Chapter.
