Nirmal: A pilgrim was burnt alive, while 49 pilgrims had a close shave when a bus went off in flames, while they were coming from Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj at Vrindavan in temple city Mathura in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
Sources said that Sheelam Drupath (60) from Palsi village in Kubheer mandal was charred to death, after the bus caught fire while the remaining 49 pilgrims were visiting a temple. Smoking by Drupath was suspected to be the cause of the fire.
Local fire fighting engines doused the flames by promptly arriving at the spot of the accident.
Mudhole MLA Ramarao Patel said that efforts were being made to shift the pilgrims at the earliest by speaking to Mathura Collector and Superintendent of Police. He stated that the passengers were provided with food and shelter. He added that belongings of the pilgrims were also gutted in the fire mishap.
