The symmetrical four arches near Charminar apart from Mahboob Chowk and the imposing Clock Tower in the old city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to invite conservation architects for renovation of the structures, which add significant value to Hyderabad’s architectural landscape.
According to GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, the proposal is to renovate and conserve Char Kamaan at an estimated cost of Rs 1.77 crore. The funds have been sanctioned and tenders for renovation will be invited
shortly, he said.
The Mahboob Chowk and the Clock Tower nearby will also be renovated and conserved, GHMC officials said. The Chowk now houses close to 262 small shops, a majority of which are occupied by meat merchants, who will be rehabilitated in plush and renovated shops. A new, remodelled market, with the same architectural style, will be constructed at Mahboob Chowk, officials said. There would be an underground cellar, ground floor and first floor for the proposed plaza to accommodate the existing tenants, they said.
