The city police on Thursday evening took into custody Abbas Ali Razvi, who had allegedly made blasphemous remarks against prominent figure of the Islam.
The video clip went viral in last few days prompting the youngsters to come out on the streets and stage a protest. Following a complaint, the Moghalpura police registered a case against Syed Abbas Ali Rizvi, under Sections 295, 505, 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code.
On Thursday evening, the man was taken into custody by the police. Meanwhile, senior officials of the police department held talks with religious leaders of different groups of the Shia and Sunni sects of the Muslim community and urged them to maintain peace.
The officials said that any issues should be directly brought to their notice and assured of immediate action. They asked the public
not to move around in groups on the roads or take out rallies to lodge a complaint with the police. If need be the complained can be made through online mediums and later the complainant can personally visit the police station the next if it is too late in the night citing law and order problems.
The leaders urged the police not to put to use too many police patrol vehicles in their effort to increase patrolling. “Use of the sirens continuously and the twinkling lights are giving scope for the people to film the movement of the police and share of social media platforms. In turn, on being circulated such videos are resulting in spread of rumours,” the community leaders pointed out.
The community appreciated the efforts of the police in defusing two ‘conflict-situations’ in last fortnight.
