Mango prices dip with rise in arrivals

Sun 06 Apr 2025, 03:36:50
Prices of mangoes have come down by a couple of hundred rupees in the city with the increase in the arrivals of the fruit to the market.

A kilogram of mango is now being sold for a price between Rs 150 and Rs 200 now as against the price of Rs 350 and Rs 400 a kg a fortnight ago. The changes in climatic conditions across the country had reportedly led to a delay in the arrivals of mangoes at Hyderabad’s markets. Usually, fruit markets brim with mangoes from the beginning of March.

On Friday, 566 trucks carrying 12,400 quintals of mangoes arrived at the market. The highest quantity was the Benishan variety followed by Totapuri, Himayati, Nati, Rasalu, Sundari, Mallikda, Kesari, Daseri and

Apusa.

“There was a delay in arrivals. Now more trucks are coming. We expect things will further improve and the prices will further drop in coming weeks,” said an official of Batasingaram fruit market.

The fruit to the market is brought from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and different districts of Telangana by farmers to the city. The Batasingaram market is the first destination for unloading the trucks, followed by Pahadishareef, MJ Market and Bowenpally.

A trader Mohd Nazeer, of Afzalgunj said the prices are expected to touch Rs 100 a kg mark. “By mid April we expect the price to further come down. The fruit will be available at reasonable prices until the first week of June,” said Nazeer.
