Speaking to
mediapersons here on Monday, Sangam general secretary R Sunil Kumar said
marriages of divorced men and women,
widowers and widows will also be performed on the occasion. He said 500 couples
of SC community will be presented Rs 2,50,000 by the New
Delhi-based Ambedkar
Foundation after the mass marriages. Similarly, each inter-caste couple will be
presented Rs 50,000 from the government, he
said, adding that the Telangana government would present Rs 51,000 to
each couple belonging to SC, ST, BC, Economically backward OCs under Kalyana
Lakshmi Scheme.
The poor Muslim and Christian couples would also get Rs 51,000 under Shaadi Mubaarak scheme, he said. The males above 21 years and females above 18 years belonging to these communities are eligible to tie the knot and get monetary gift from the government. He said they were conducting such marriages free of cost for the past 24 years with a view to eradicate the evils of caste system, untouchability and dowry.
