The maximum speed on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) for the first two lanes has been increased to 120 kmph, from the earlier 100 kmph.
The eight-lane access-controlled ring road, with four lanes on each side, had a speed limit of 100 kmph for the first two lanes, and 80 kmph for the remaining two.
Asked about the decision, which was announced by
minister K.T. Rama Rao on Twitter, a senior traffic police official said they had not received any orders from the government about the increase of speed limits.
He said the best way to prevent road accidents was to intensify drunk driving checks and create awareness among drivers regarding driving practices.
