Meet held on Lok Sabha poll preparedness

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner and Hyderabad district election officer Dana Kishore said that preparations for the forthcoming Parliament elections are being made in the district. He convened a meeting to discuss on election preparations with city police commissioner Anjani Kumar, police officials, returning officers and assistant returning officers at GHMC main office on Tuesday.

GHMC Commissioner instructed the officials to start preparations for the forthcoming elections as the election schedule may be declared in the last week of February or first week of March. Hyderabad district Joint Collector would act as returning officer of Secunderabad constituency and Hyderabad district Collector would be returning officer for Hyderabad constituency, he said. Deputy Commissioners, Zonal Commissioners and RDOs have been designated as Assistant Returning Officers for each assembly segment.

The Commissioner provided the details of the Parliament seats in the Hyderabad district. Secunderabad Parliament constituency consists of Musheerabad, Amberpet, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Sanath Nagar, Nampally and Secunderabad assembly segments and Hyderabad Parliament constituency has Malakpet, Karwan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Yakuthpura, Chandrayangutta, and Bahadurpur assembly segments. Malkajgiri Parliament seat has only Secunderabad cantonment assembly



segment.

As of February 10, 2019, Secunderabad seat has 19,14,954 voters and has 1,809 polling centres in 706 building locations, he said. Hyderabad constituency has a total of 19,32,926 voters and has 1,935 polling centres in 770 polling locations. There are 1,404 critical polling stations and 552 polling locations in 15 assembly segments in Hyderabad district. Dana Kishore said that the number of voters may increase further as the final voter list would be released on February 22.

Expressing satisfaction at successful conduct of assembly elections, he instructed the officials to ensure that the mistakes committed during the assembly elections are not repeated in the forthcoming elections. He said that those officials who have been working in Hyderabad for the past three years or local officials would not be given election duties in Hyderabad district, he clarified.

Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad commissioner of police, police officers of ACP cadre would be appointed as police nodal officers for each assembly segment. He said that all the licensed weapons have been deposited and persons who are involved in the election related offences would be issued bind-over orders.Among those who participated in the meeting include Hyderabad in-charge collector Ravi, DCPs Ramesh, Amber Kishore Jha and others.
