A cold blanket engulfed Adilabad district with night temperatures plunging to 8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the lowest recorded in the state. Hyderabad, witnessed a chilly night, the minimum temperature registered was 14.8 degrees Celsius, that is, 3 levels below normal. The mercury significantly dropped across Hanmakonda, Khammam, Nizamabad, Ramagundam, below the normal range for around this time of the year.
According to the Meteorological calendar, December to February is considered as peak months of winter;
however, the temperatures begin to drop from mid-November onwards. The day shows usually partly cloudy sky and many days are sunny too. However, when the twilight sets in, the temperature begins to fall.
Officials attributed the drop in night temperatures to north-westerly winds. “The cold winds bring in the chill in the air, the temperature levels will further drop as the peak winter month is approaching,” said an official from the weather department.
