Metro rail project gets extension

Wed 05 Jul 2017, 11:33:33
The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) which has been running behind schedule will have to complete all the three corridors except 6 kms stretch ( 5 km stretch in the Old City and about 1 km stretch between Hitec city and Raidurg) by November 2018. As per the original agreement, July 4 was the deadline for the 'concessionaire' to complete the entire project (all three corridors).

Meanwhile along with the extension, the state government has also advised HMRL to gear up for launching the completed stretches of the project in the next few months apart from completing corridor-I (Miyapur-LB Nagar: 29 km) and corridor-III (NagoleHitec City: 27 km) by the end of this year itself. The decision

was taken by the state government following detailed technical presentation by the concessionaire 'L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited',
independent engineer Louis Berger, and HMRL and several rounds of discussions and hard negotiations between the senior officials of the government and the concessionaire.

“Since the original construction period was ended on July 4 and some delays have occurred in completion of the project by the originally stipulated date due to multiple court cases in acquisition of some critical properties etc., the government has agreed for this time extension of 17 months,“ said HMRL managing director NVS Reddy .
