The highly successful Hyderabad Metro Rail will soon chug into the Old City, providing affordable and speedy transport to scores of Hyderabadis in the next phase. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao gave an assurance to AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi who sought extension of the Metro Rail services to people of Old City.

He also assured improved electrification of the Old City area at a cost of Rs 800 crore and directed Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy to visit the area to prepare an action plan for complete revamp of the infrastructure to provide quality power.

Responding to issues raised by the legislators in the Assembly on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said the State government was considering bringing in a new law – Ownership Title Act, to protect the land ownership of genuine land owners from land grabbers especially in Hyderabad city.

He would soon convene a meeting with the city

legislators to workout the modalities of the proposed Act shortly. “We will also take up land survey in the city as suggested by some legislators to determine original land owners and set the records straight,” he assured.

Chandrashekhar Rao asserted that the government was committed to construct three lakh double-bedroom houses including one lakh houses in Hyderabad city before the end of the current term of the TRS government. He said that due to initial hiccups, the 2BHK housing scheme was delayed and all issues had to be sorted out to expedite the work.

He also appealed to the Centre to allow the State governments to decide over reservation quota within the State purview on population basis. He said funds sanctioned under SC/ST Sub-plan were being spent as per the newly passed Act which would be presented before the House during presentation of budget appropriation bill during the current session.
