Telangana Panchayat Raj and IT minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday said that the Hyderabad Metro Rail project would be extended by another 83 km in various directions - from Miyapur to Patancheru, Tarnaka to ECIL, Nagole to LB Nagar, LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar and Rayadurgam to Samshabad, besides extension of the Uppal route up to Yadadri.
He said that it would start functioning within 2 to 3 months as scheduled. Replying to a question raised by MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi in the state Assembly, during the question hour, KTR said over 75 per cent of works have been completed and the delay was not due to the re-alignment of the
route.
The total cost of the Metro Rail project was Rs 14,132 crore as estimated in 2010, but there was no progress in the project till 2012. "The TRS government is taking all measures to complete the project within schedule," he said and added that they were much faster in completing such a big project when compared to Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai where it took seven-and-a-half years to construct 25-km route, seven years for 6 km and six years for 8 km respectively.
Metro rail fares will be between Rs 13 and Rs 25, the minister said and added that the company would be hardly in profits for several years in the future.
