The Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities have decided to stop operation of escalators during non-peak hours in order to save power.
There are three types of entry and exit from the Metro stations, including escalator, elevator (lift) and staircase. These connect the street with the concourse level and the rail platforms. For the convenience of the passengers, the L&T Metro Rail had installed a total of six escalators,
including four at concourse level and the remaining two on both sides of the platform connecting to the street level.
“Clear instructions have been given to all Metro station in-charges to stop the functioning of escalators, if there is no rush, during nonpeak hours. The peak hours are between 9am and 11am during mornings and between 5pm and 9pm during evenings,” an L&T Metro Rail official said.
