Metro train ride crossed the 1 lakh mark

Sat 18 Aug 2018, 11:08:19
Metro ridership crossed the 1 lakh mark yet again on Thursday, partly due to heavy traffic congestion near Erragadda, where road laying works are underway, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) authorities said on Friday.

According to HMRL MD NVS Reddy, patronage hit a new high on Thursday, which was a ‘normal’ day with no additional services being introduced, unlike August 7 when 60 additional services were run in view of the transport strike and ran up a ridership of 1.5 lakh.

On Thursday, 1.07 lakh passengers,

including 98,113 paid passengers, rode the Metro. According to Reddy, traffic congestion on the roads and improved first and last mile connectivity at Metro stations is resulting in an increase in the ridership.

“With over 50 lakh vehicles in the city and four lakh new vehicles being added annually, congestion is increasing by the day. Not considering the ridership figures of the first two months, which can be attributed to initial euphoria, ridership reached a new high of 1.07 lakh on Thursday,” said Reddy.
