Religious fervour and gaiety marked Milad-un-Nabi,the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, celebrations in the city on Sunday. Religious meetings, blood donations and food camps were organised at various places across the city by the pious. Dressed in festive attire, several people turned up for the public meetings and donated blood in the camps organised by various religious and social organisations at State Central Library, Charminar Bus Stand, Prime Function Hall, Rajendranagar and several other places.
A public meeting was organised by Tameer-e-Millat at the Numaish Grounds at Nampally which drew large participation of the community. A few of the participants who attended the meetings tied a black band on their arms to mark their protest of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the disputed land in Ayodhya. A resolution was passed by the Tameer-e-Millat wherein the organisation said that it accepts the Supreme Court verdict in the connection with the case but with remorse.
However, they said they would stand by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and support its stand.
To mark the occasion, a grand procession was taken out from Charminar by Sunni United Forum of India (SUFI. The religious rally passed through Gulzar Houz, Pathergatti, Darulshifa, Mir Alam Mandi and culminated with a brief meeting at Tallabkatta.
Nearly 50,000 people from Shaheennagar, Kalapather, Kishanbagh, Rein Bazaar, Amannagar, Dabeerpura and Hafeezbabanagar joined the rally. The police were put on alert following the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya title suit pronounced on Saturday.
Teams of the Rapid Action Force, Commissioner’s Task Force, City Armed Reserve and Telangana State Special Police were deployed for the security arrangements to maintain law and order in the city. Senior police officials were monitoring the procession from Command and Control Centre.
