Majlis is the only alternative between the Congress and the BJP, said Asaduddin Owaisi, MP, and president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehaddul Muslimeen, on the concluding day of the campaign for GHMC elections.
“The Congress can not defeat the BJP. The AIMIM is the only party that can defeat the BJP,” he said. The country is looking towards the party as it has successfully made a strong network between Muslims, Dalits and Bahujans, he added. In the final meeting which was held at Khilwat Ground, he said that the Congress has become so weak that it had to bring in bigwigs to campaign in municipal elections.
“As long as we had an alliance with the Congress, they did not have a problem with us. But when we left the alliance, disagreeing with the then Chief Minister, Kiran Kumar Reddy, they started calling us communal,” the MP alleged. He

slammed the Congress for trying to paint a bad picture of AIMIM. Earlier, the same Congress leadership used to beg for AIMIM’s support and alliance both in the Parliament and in the Assembly, he said. Taking a dig on Venkaiah Naidu for calling his mandate beef politics, Mr. Owaisi said: No one is forcing you to eat what you don’t want to eat. But during inflation, when 1-kg. of dal is being sold at Rs. 140, in poor Dalit and Muslim households, women buy meat to support their children’s health.
Mr. Owaisi also hinted that once the party secures good number of seats, it could stake claim for the Mayor’s post.
Speaking on the occasion, Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLA, said it is because of the party’s efforts that a total of Rs. 1,100 crore budget was allocated in Telangana for the benefit of Muslims and other minority communities.
