Speaking in the Assembly during a short discussion on development of minorities in the State, he said that January 18 would remain a red letter day for the Muslims as the government accepted several demands of the community. He said that government
should continue four per cent reservations to Muslims while making efforts to raise them to 12 per cent.
Government should hold a separate selection process of government teachers for the Urdu medium schools. He said Muslims should be given four per cent reservations in the regularisation of services of contract employees. Akbar said that millions of US dollars were with the Saudi Arabia government for the construction of a Rubath (guest house) at Mecca and that the government should persuade Saudi government to take up the construction.
