After the successful completion of Phase-I of Mission Kakatiya and with Phase-II nearing completion, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao directed the irrigation officials to take up the third phase works with the same spirit for rejuvenating village tanks in the State.
At a video conference with all District Collectors and irrigation officials on Friday, the Minister directed that the proposals for Mission Kakatiya-III should be sent by February 28, and if any proposals are sent late, it would be taken up in the fourth phase.
Mission Kakatiya is a flagship programme of the State government aimed at rejuvenating the 45,000-odd village tanks in the State in 5 years. During the third phase, the Irrigation Department has decided to take up feeder channels for repairs and rejuvenation of tanks.
Expressing dismay over the low number of proposals received so far for MK-III, Rao appreciated Medak district irrigation
officials for forwarding cent percent proposals for phase-III and asked all district officials to take Medak district as role model. “Till the completion of phase III works, review meetings will be held every 10 days to assess the progress. Farmers will also be intimated in advance to lift the silt from the tanks,” said Rao.
The Minister also informed the officials that the department was willing to take up construction of new tanks if such proposals were forwarded to the State government.
Talking about identifying the exact ayacut under each water source, Rao said a committee should be formed at district level with Collector, Revenue and Irrigation officials. Minister said the ayacut re-localisation would be completed once the exact ayacut is identified. He also wanted to strengthen the file tracking system in the Secretariat and asked Special Chief Secretary S K Joshi to take necessary measures in this regard.
