Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said that the Telangana Government has launched Mission Kakatiya to ensure effective utilisation of rainwater.
Addressing a seminar on water conservation at Haritha Plaza on Sunday, Harish Rao said that the government undertook the gigantic task of cleaning and reviving over 46,000 lakes and tanks across the State.
He said that the Mission Kakatiya has resulted in revival of thousands of lakes during the last two
years.
He said all the lakes were filled to the capacity in the recent monsoon. This also helped in charging ground water, he said.
Harish Rao said that the State Government also launched an ambitious Haritha Haram programme which aims to increase the green cover by 33% by planting 230 crore trees.
The seminar was also addressed by Lok Sabha MP B.B. Patil, Walk for Water convener Karunakar Reddy and other officials.
