Wed 13 Mar 2019, 12:37:08
The TRS bagged four MLC seats while the AIMIM got the fifth seat in the council election held under the MLA quota on Tuesday that was boycotted by the Congress on the grounds that the ruling party has been engineering defections. TDP and BJP abstained. After counting of votes, the returning officer declared Mohd Mahmood Ali, Seri Subash Reddy, Satyavathi Rathod, Egge Mallesham

(all TRS) and AIMIM candidate Mirza Riyaz ul Hasan as elected. Of the 120 MLAs, 98 votes were polled (TRS got 91, MIM 7). Ahead of the MLC elections, four Congress MLAs and one TDP MLA had defected to TRS.

Congress has accused the ruling TRS of luring its MLAs to secure a win in the poll.
