MLC polls pass off peacefully in Telangana

Elections for Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar MLC (both graduates and teachers) constituencies went off peacefully on Friday. About 60 per cent voting was recorded for graduates constituency while teachers segment recorded 80 per cent polling.

Besides contesting candidates, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, government officials, teachers and others exercised their franchise in Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar districts.

Local MP B Vinod Kumar along with his wife Madhavi exercised vote in Urdu medium primary school polling station in Karimnagar. MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, BJP MLC graduates constituency candidate P Sugunakar Rao cast their votes.

Joint Collector Shyam Prasad Lal also exercised their votes in Arts College polling booth.

A total of 24 candidates including 17 graduates and seven teacher aspirants were in fray. Polling authorities arranged 313 polling booths for graduates and 253 for teachers’ constituencies in four districts.

In erstwhile Karimnagar, a total of 127 polling stations were arranged. While 47 were common polling stations, special polling booths were also established for graduates (72) and teachers (six).

There were 1,96,321 graduates and 23,214 teachers who registered their votes for both the constituencies in four districts.
