The popular MMTS services will have yet another attraction soon, with the South Central Railway (SCR) planning to offer Wi-Fi connectivity in all local stations in the city.
To promote the Union government’s Digital India initiative, the SCR is drawing up plans to provide high-speed Wi-Fi facility to all the stations in the zone, including MMTS and rural stations, in a phased manner.
According to SCR officials, with a view to making railway stations completely digital and provide passenger-centric services, free Wi-Fi facility would be extended to more railway stations in the next fiscal.
This would be a major help for rail users in stations such as Lingampally, Falaknuma, Hitec City and others, which are among the most popular
ones.
At present, Wi-Fi facility is available in 29 stations in Telangana. Across the entire SCR zone, free Wi-Fi is being provided at 37 major stations and 45 stations in rural areas over the last four years while works on providing Wi-Fi are in progress at 27 stations in rural areas.
The high-speed Wi-Fi is free and one should provide their mobile number, after which a one-time password is sent to the user’s mobile number. The process has to be repeated every one hour as the session expires after 60 minutes.
As per the present analysis, on an average, more than 12,000 users per month use the service from 20 rural railway stations in Telangana with an aggregate data download of 3.9 TB and upload of 325 GB.
