Multi-Modal Transport Service (MMTS) will resume operations in the twin cities from Wednesday after a gap of over a year. To begin with, 10 MMTS train services will be operated on different routes. Due to corona pandemic, the MMTS services in the twin cities were suspended from March 23, 2020.
The MMTS service was introduced to cater to the needs of Intra-city and suburban traffic in twin cities on August 9, 2003. Over time, the number of MMTS services was increased leading to increase in the patronage for these train services. Every day, nearly 1.60 lakh passengers travel in 121 MMTS trains.
Since then, there has
been gradual resumption of Express train services over the Indian Railways. Taking this forward, Indian Railways approved the resumption of MMTS train services from Wednesday to cater to the travel needs of the intra-city and suburban rail commuters in the twin city region.
Based on the patronage and passengers feedback, South Central Railway (SCR) authorities will take a decision on increasing the number of MMTS trains. SCR advised passengers to follow all Covid protocols like maintaining physical distance, compulsorily wearing masks and frequent sanitization etc in trains and on station premises.
