Home minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali on Wednesday highlighted the importance of modernising the state police department and lauded the state’s nous in appointing officers to their suited roles, at an award distribution programme at Ravindra Bharathi auditorium.
Among the awardees of the Ati Utkrit Seva Schemes-2022 were DGP Anjani Kumar and city police commissioner C.V. Anand.
The home minister said that 281 police officers were awarded various service medals of the Centre, as well as the state government, to meritorious officers for their performance of duties.
Mahmood Ali and DGP Anjani Kumar were the chief guests of the event.
Speaking about the need for a harmonious society for the optimum implementation of welfare schemes, Mahmood Ali said this was the reason why the Chief Minister gave utmost priority to modernising the state police and undertaking large-scale recruitment.
He highlighted the recently-opened Ramagundam police commissionerate premises as being the best in the country.
Discussing the establishment of new police zones, divisions, stations and narcotics control units, he said that the state-of-the-art integrated command centre helps coordinate the police.
Highlighting the number of MNCs that have set up
shop in the city due to peaceful conditions, Mahmood Ali hailed the Telangana Police as being among the best in the country, with measures such as friendly policing, women security department, She teams, Bharosa kendras, the establishment of CCTVs, closure of matka-gambling centres and prevention of narcotics.
DGP Anjani Kumar said that the medals are not personal and that credit should go to the awardees’ colleagues, other police officers in their jurisdiction and their family.
"The police department is a vital part of economic development. Police job is like a sword," he said.
Kumar called upon the police officers to work with more dedication in the spirit of these medals, as recognition of the best services rendered by the police.
While additional DGP Abhilash Bisth issued the welcome address, Cyberabad ACP Riti Raj invited the recipients of medals onto the stage.
In attendance were home department Principal Secretary Jitender, ACB DG Ravigupta, Police Housing Corporation MD Rajeev Ratan, Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand, Additional DGs Vijaya Kumar, Shikha Goyal and Swati Lakra, Cyberabad police commissioner Stephen Ravindra, IGs Kamala Haasan Reddy, Chandra Shekhar Reddy, Shah Nawaz Kasim and Ramesh.
