The much-awaited southwest monsoon has set in over Telangana bringing in a huge relief to the people.According to the Indian Meteorological Department's Hyderabad office, most parts of the state excluding the southern tip has been engulfed by the southwest monsoon.
Officials said they have declared that the monsoon has hit the state as there would be continuous rainfall over Telangana and Hyderabad for the next two days.
“This year's monsoon, will be a normal monsoon, IMD director (in-charge), Dr.Y K Reddy said. During the entire season, the city can witness a normal monsoon to the
tune of 99 % of the long period average, which translates into 72 centimetres during the entire season.“
When asked about the delay in the arrival of monsoon, he explained that there's always a plus or minus of four days in the arrival, which he said was quite normal.
The rainfall activity thus far is due to premonsoon activity ,“ said the weatherman. To declare the arrival of the monsoon, officials said that there must be continuous rainfall for a minimum of two days and the wind should flow in the southwest direction or west direction at a speed of 50 kmph.
