The Indian Meteorological Department on Wednesday said monsoon rains are likely to cover the State around June 3.
The IMD said conditions are likely to become favourable for further advance of the South West monsoon into some more parts of peninsular India around June 3, with the likely increase of rainfall over interior Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
In its second long range prediction of the monsoon released on Wednesday, the IMD said rainfall this year is expected to be at 95 per cent of the long period average (LPA) for the Indian peninsula for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The country as a whole is expected to witness a normal monsoon year with rainfall likely at 97 per cent of the long period
average. The LPA rainfall over the country as a whole between the years 1951 and 2000 is 89 cm, the IMD said.
According to the IMD, the monsoon advanced further into some parts of Central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala, most parts of coastal Karnataka and some parts of south interior Karnataka and some more parts of interior Tamil Nadu. It also said the conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into some parts of North Eastern States in the next two days.
Meanwhile, Telangana continued to sizzle with the IMD reporting, from all its 10 monitoring stations, temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius. Hyderabad registered 40.7 degrees Celsius, which the IMD said was 2.1 degrees more than normal.
