The southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from the state in the first week of October; the process had begun on Monday. Before the monsoon bids goodbye, the state will experience some thunderstorms and intense rains.

Mahesh Palawat, vice-president, meteorology and climate change, Skymet Weather, told, "Post the withdrawal, some light rains can be experienced in a few parts, in November we can expect some considerable spells or rain."

A senior IMD official



told  that  "A new weather system will form around September 29 which will bring intense rains. Post that, the models suggest that the monsoon will withdraw."

The monsoon has been bountiful for the state, which has received 842.2 mm rainfall from June 1, 17 per cent more than the norm of 721.7 mm

Meanwhile, the IMD issued a yellow alert for the next five days for thunderstorms and lightning.
