More IT parks to be set up in the eastern side of Hyderabad

Telangana Government is working on a multi-pronged strategy to attract IT companies set up operations in the eastern side of Hyderabad towards Uppal and beyond. The strategy involves allowing existing industrial parks to convert into IT parks, creation of Rachakonda Security Council on the lines of Cyberabad Security Council, extending MMTS service up to Raigiri and creating infrastructure and residential facilities among others, said Industries and IT Minister KT Rama Rao.

As many five IT parks in about 25 lakh sqft will be coming up towards Uppal. These will create employment to about 35,000 people directly, said Rao on Wednesday.

Five industrial parks have been given the nod to convert into IT parks and Industries Minister had handed them the conversion letters at a function in Uppal. The Minister said that the Government will soon bring out a Hyderabad Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy to attract new investments towards the eastern side of the city. It is awaiting Cabinet nod in this regard, he said adding that this will ensure development of Hyderabad on all four sides. 

More such GRIDs are being planned with focus on creating and enhancing employment and residential opportunities with adequate infra, he said.

The eastern part of the city already has big names such as Genpact, Infosys and is home to many large, medium and small scale enterprises. With the GRID initiative, more enterprises and investments will come towards this part of Hyderabad, KTR said adding that the Metro Rail connectivity is a key enabler of economic activity.

The city, which is being moulded into a global city by creating necessary infrastructure, has two



electronic manufacturing clusters and the International airport in the southern part. The Rahejas are building an IT park. The western part of the city, that includes Hitec City and surrounding areas, already has many IT parks. The northern part of the city, towards Shamirpet, has Genome Valley. Now, a strategic approach towards eastern side of the city will also bring new investments, the Minister said.

Polluting industries have to move out of ORR and the space created due to shifting can be diverted for use by other non-polluting industrial sectors, including IT, he said adding that the Government will assist the companies which come forward to set up their operations on the eastern side of the city. The Government is already creating infrastructure facilities in this region.

Efforts will be made to extend the MMTS service up to Raigiri and this will further enhance the employment generation potential of the eastern corridor.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed various departments to take up infra works across Hyderabad to ensure there is overall development, he said. IT sector has been growing more than the national average and will continue the growth momentum in days to come, he said.

On infra, he said a review meeting was held with various stakeholders to understand the requirements in the eastern part of the city. The Government is strengthening the road network by constructing skyway from Uppal to Narapally and a flyover from Amberpet to Ramanthapur.

Rachakonda Security Council, on the lines of Cyberabad Security Council, has already been set up by the Rachakonda Police, the Minister added.
