The mortal remains of Col. Santhosh Babu, who made the supreme sacrifice of his life in service to the Nation, reached his residence at Vidyanagar in Suryapet town in Telangana last evening.
A pall of gloom descended on the small town in Telangana when the tri-colour wrapped coffin was brought to home on an ambulance by army personnel.
The emotionally charged people are seen chanting “Santhosh Babu Amar Hain” all through the way from Hyderabad to Suryapet. Col. Santosh Babu and 19 soldiers were killed in the face off with the Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh on Monday last.
Earlier, the Indian Army paid its last respects to Col B Santosh when the mortal remains of the officer was
flown from Delhi in a special aircraft to Hakimpet Air Force Station by senior government officials and Military personnel of Headquarters Telangana and Andhra Sub Area.
Lieutenant General TSA Narayanan, Commandant, MCEME laid a wreath on behalf of the Army Commander and all ranks of Southern Command. Wife of Col Santosh Babu Mrs B Santoshi and Children paid tributes. Tributes were also paid by Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, State Ministers K Taraka Rama Rao, Malla Reddy, Jagdish Reddy and several state officials.
According to Suryapet District Collector Vijaya Krishna Reddy, the funeral will take place at the family’s own land this morning with military honours.
