The first multi-level parking complex to come up as part of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be at Nampally.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), which is constructing two metro stations – one near Nampally Railway Station and the other near Gandhi Bhavan (also in Nampally), is now inviting agencies to be appointed as concessionaire for development of the multi-level parking complex.

The structure will be constructed under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. Agencies will have to come up with designs, a funding pattern and construct the structure. HMRL will provide the land, a HMRL senior official said.Given the commercial establishments and the railway station in the vicinity, Nampally is a high traffic zone and frequent traffic jams are witnessed in the area. To make matters worse, there are no organised parking spaces in the area. Majority of the

vehicles are either parked on the roadside or in the lanes and this practice affects traffic flow in the area, officials said.

More importantly, once the two Metro stations become operational, traffic woes will compound further. This is why HMRL is planning to construct the multi-level parking complex between the two Metro stations near Chenatha Bhavan, the official said, adding that a half-acre plot had been finalised for constructing the complex, which will accommodate a minimum of 350 cars.

With multilevel parking complexes being the need of the hour in the city, HMRL will be constructing a few more multilevel parking complexes in addition to those being planned by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The municipal corporation has already issued tender notifications for construction of two complexes at Khilwath and Charminar bus depot in old city.
