The municipal administration department has decided to create a new zone in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Formal orders are expected in a week.
Currently, the GHMC has five zones: North, East, West, South and Central. The new zone (Central Zone 2) will be created with existing circles Amberpet, Musheerabad, Nampally and Goshamahal. One circle Begumpet will be removed from North Zone and will be merged with Central Zone-1which will have Yousufguda, Khairtabad, Mehdipatnam and Karwan circles.
The proposals have been prepared by the GHMC following directions of
municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao. He said there are nearly 40 municipal wards in the central zone and six municipal circles which has become a major problem in terms of administration. Owing to this, officials have been taking time to redress grievances of people.
Official sources said initially it was proposed to incorporate Malakpet circle, which is currently in South Zone, in the new zone. But MIM MLA from Malakpet Balala opposed the move by the government.
Last year, as part of administrative reform, the government created 30 municipal circles from 24 circles.
