The State Election Commission (SEC) is planning to hold municipal polls in 131 civic bodies including 10 municipal corporations in the third week of January 2020. However, the schedule will be released in the first week of January.
According to the sources, the government is keen on concluding the municipal polls by the end of January i.e, before the budget session. A meeting with district collectors will be held soon
over the election arrangements.
Currently, the civic bodies are being governed by special officers as its tenure ended in July last year. The elections are likely to be held between January 20 and January 25 since there are holidays for Sankranti in the second week of January. The reservations of wards will also be finalised by the government soon based on the population of SC, ST and BC.
