Nirmal: Five fishermen shown rare spontaneity and exemplary courage in rescuing three members of a family by thwarting a murder-suicide bid after a 40 year old man pushed his two sons into River Godavari, before taking a plunge near Basar town on Monday morning. The fishermen moved in quickly and save all the three, police said.
Praveen (40) of Nizamabad district was stated to have pushed his two sons Ajay (8) and Riwans (5) from the birdge before jumping into the river to end his life. He was reportedly dejected over some family disputes and decided to kill his children and end his life.
However, the saviours who were
fishing in river Godavari moved in very quicklyk and saved the trio from drowning. The fishermen were Bojaram, Srikanth, Pittu, Yogi and Raju of Yancha village in Armoor mandal of Nizamabad district.
Local police and onlookers appreciated the quick action of the fishermen. “Their sheer presence of mind saved the lives of the three. Else, the three would have drowned,” Basara sub inspector Mahesh remarked.
Trio were admitted to a hospital in Basar where their condition was stated to be stable, as they received minor injuries. In the meantime, photographs and videos of the incident went viral on social media platforms in Nirmal district.
