Musi river rejuvenation, development being planned with Rs.16,634 cr

The State Government was adopting a multi-pronged approach for River Musi rejuvenation, beautification and development with an estimated cost of Rs.16,634 crore, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao.

The Minister also announced that the Government was taking up SRDP second phase works with a cost of Rs.3,115 crore in all zones of GHMC.

During question hour in the Assembly here on Thursday, the Minister said the TRS Government was committed and determined for River Musi rejuvenation and development.

“Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was personally leading these efforts and we will deliver what we promise,” said Rama Rao amid thumping of benches by TRS legislators in the House.

Explaining the initiatives planned under the River Musi rejuvenation and development, the Minister said Rs.9,000 crore was proposed for the elevated East to West elevated corridor along the River Musi. The State Government was taking up River Godavari linking from Kondapochamma to Gandipet with a cost of Rs.1,250 crore. This apart, 31 STPs were being proposed at decentralized



locations with Rs.3,866 crore and these works would be completed by December this year, he said.

Under the River Musi beautification, about Rs.2,000 crore was approved, 14 bridges across River Esa and River Musi would be constructed with Rs.545 crore and three check dams with nearly Rs.300 crore were also proposed, he explained.

All these works would be executed by HMDA, GHMC, HMWSSB and R&B departments in coordination, he added.

On the speed limitations in GHMC limits, the Minister said the average speed in other cities in the country was below 30 kmph and in Hyderabad it was above 40 kmph. This was due to the road infrastructure developed by the TRS Government, he said, adding the same was being highlighted by visitors from other cities to Hyderabad during different programmes.

Traffic police was levying penalties on the motorisrs for over speeding but people were appealing to increase the speed limits. GHMC along with traffic police and transport would conduct a study and finalise the speed limits in the city, he informed.
