Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao said that the legislation to provide 12% reservation to Muslims and Scheduled Tribes in Telangana State would be tabled during the current budget session of Legislative Assembly.
Replying to the debate on Motion of Thanks on Governor’s Address in Assembly on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the subsequent to the promise of giving 12% quota in jobs and education to Muslims and STs during elections, the TRS Government had constituted Sudhir Commission and Chellappa Commission to study the socio-economic conditions of Muslims and STs respectively.
He said that the Sudhir Commission has submitted its report to the government and a BC Commission has already been constituted to study the demand for enhancement of Muslim
quota.
KCR said that the State Government was not giving reservation to Muslims on the basis of religion, but on the ground of their backwardness. He said that the BC Commission has already held a public hearing in Hyderabad and the similar public hearings were being held in various districts.
He said that the government was expecting a report from the BC Commission within a week. On receipt of report, the government would pass a Muslim Reservation Bill and the same would be forwarded to the Central Government seeking amendment in Schedule 9 to provide enhanced reservation on the lines of Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister said that the Bill to enhance ST quota would also be passed in the present session. He appealed all political parties to support the reservation bills.
