Hyderabad: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) recently concluded its water conservation campaign ‘Jalame Jeevanam’ in nearly 4,000 villages in Telangana where ground water was over exploited.
In a statement, NABARD said that the campaign had managed to create awareness among people on the importance of water conservation. The ‘Jalame Jeevanam’ campaign involved motivating people to think and talk about water conservation at the community level. It also involved motivating them to construct water conservation structures through Shramdan and
coordinating with other agencies.
NABARD officials said that in future they would work on water resource maps and have drawn-up action plans on conservation of ground water by taking help of over 44,000 village level Jal Sahayaks (water volunteers).
NABARD will also design and implement area based schemes and location specific interventions with active support from State government and banks. It will hold district and state level interactive meets to draw suitable strategies and concrete action plan, CGM, NABARD, Dr. P. Raddhakrishna said.
