Governor-designate Tamilisai Soundararajan will assume office on September 8, official sources said on Wednesday. Telangana High Court Chief Justice RS Chouhan will administer the oath of office to her.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, outgoing Governor ESL Narasimhan and other dignitaries of the State will attend the swearing-in ceremony. Arrangements are in progress for the occasion. She will be the first woman Governor of the new State.
The warrant of appointment of Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana, issued by the President, was notified in Telangana Gazette on Wednesday. Born on June 2, 1961, she
is a doctor by profession. She served as president of the BJP Tamil Nadu unit and also national secretary of the party. Her father K Anandan was a former MP and senior Congress leader in TN. Her husband Soundarajan is also a doctor. He is a professor and head of nephrology, Saveetha University; senior consultant nephrologist, Apollo Hospital; and governing council member of ICMR.
She will be replacing Narasimhan, who was the Governor of undivided AP since 2009 as well as the two Telugu States after the bifurcation in 2014 till the appointment of Biswabhushan Harichandan as the Governor of AP in July.
