NIA raids ISIS suspects in Hyderabad

Tue 07 Aug 2018, 11:44:25
Two years after the Abu Dhabi module of ISIS came on the radar of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi branch, sleuths on Monday conducted serial raids and searches at seven locations in Old City in coordination with Telangana Counter Intelligence personnel.

This is the first time since 2016 — when the terror outfit straddling Iraq and Syria was luring jihadis across the world — that NIA has launched raids in Hyderabad. Summons were reportedly served on seven people, including suspected ISIS sympathiser Mohammed Abdullah Basith and two other associates

to appear at NIA office, Begumpet, on Tuesday.

On Monday, NIA officials began simultaneous search operations at different locations, including the Babanagar residence of Basith and his sister Sana. Houses of Basith aides, Hannan Qureshi, Omar Farooq, Adnan and Abdul Qadir, resident of Shaheen Nagar, were also searched.
Intelligence inputs suggest Basith, aides after coming out of jail, are reviving their clandestine activities and reviving online contacts with alleged IS sympathisers in Abu Dhabi.
