The selection of AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was elected for the sixth term on December 3, as the pro-tem Speaker of the Third Legislative Assembly of Telangana appeared to set the stage for a new confrontation with the BJP. The BJP’s MLA-elect from Goshamahal, T. Raja Singh, on Friday declared that none of the eight winning candidates from the BJP, including himself, would oath as members of the House if it was to be administered by Owaisi.
Raja Singh, in a statement, also accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of attempting to appease the minority community and the MIM by choosing Owaisi as pro-tem Speaker when there were several seniors from other parties who could have been picked for the responsibility.
It may be recalled that Raja Singh, after the 2018 elections, had refused to take oath when MIM Charminar MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan was picked as the pro-tem Speaker.
"As long as I am alive, I will never take oath before the MIM, Akbaruddin Owaisi, and a descendant of Razakar leader Kasim Razvi," Raja Singh declared, adding that under no circumstance would any of the other winners from the BJP take oath on Saturday. "We will take the oath after a full-time Speaker is appointed," he said.
Raja Singh also asked the Chief Minister to explain what the Congress-MIM relationship was, especially after repeatedly claiming during the election campaign that the BRS, MIM and the BJP were working together. "Today it is time for Revanth Reddy to explain the Congress and MIM ties. He is making a big mistake. The BRS suffered after handing over the steering to MIM , and we will not give up until a BJP government is formed in Telangana," Raja Singh said.
