Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday explained to governor ESL Narasimhan that film critic Kathi Mahesh followed by Paripoornananda Swami were externed from the city to ensure that there was no breakdown of the law and order situation.
It may be mentioned here that KCR takes pride in the fact that a curfew has not been imposed in any part of the city since TRS came to power. Interestingly, curfews were imposed on several occasions in parts of Old City during the earlier Congress and TDP governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
The chief minister’s explanation to the governor that externment was necessary to keep peace, has made it clear that KCR wants to keep the “TRS slate” clean of curfews even if it means the government has to take much tougher decisions to keep the law and order situation under control.
KCR also discussed other issues with the governor on Sunday. He spoke about how the term
of elected bodies in gram panchayats will end on July 31, the TRS government’s plans of going in for gram panchayat polls, the High Court directions to conduct BC enumeration and that over all reservations should not cross 50% ceiling limit. He elaborated on the TRS government’s decision to go in for an appeal in Supreme Court to seek permission to implement 61% reservations in panchayats and other local bodies.
Of late, KCR has been meeting the governor quite often and his one-hour long meeting with Narasimhan on Sunday included discussions on Modi’s ‘one nationone poll’ proposal to which TRS has extended its support. The possibility of early elections were also discussed, besides sops being doled out for BCs and other sections of society, insurance scheme for farmers, Haritha Haram programme as well as inflows of rain water from upstream Karnataka and Maharashtra into reservoirs and dams in Telangana.
