Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) Managing Director, M Dana Kishore said fool-proof plans are in place to ensure sufficient water supply this summer in the Capital.
Save for few areas like Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, Kukatpally and others, which are facing some inconvenience due to stoppage of supply from Manjeera and Singur, Water Board is supplying adequate water in the city, he said.
The shortfall of 57 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) supply from Manjeera and Singur is being met through 35 MGD from Godavari and 17 MGD from Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar. “There are sufficient water reserves in Nagarjuna Sagar and Yellampally projects,” Dana Kishore assured, while speaking to media persons here on Tuesday.
The Water Board is supplying 418 MGD against the regular supply of 423 MGD and this was resulting in short supply in few areas. To ensure sufficient water supply to Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, Kukatpally and other areas, 20 more
water filling stations are being set up in a week.
At present, the water stations are being operated in one shift and instructions have been issued to operate till 12 in the midnight and third shift also to ensure round the clock water supply through tankers, he said.
The Water Board is operating 600 free water tankers and each tanker makes three to four trips to supply water to different areas, especially slums settlements. This apart, directions have also been issued to deploy 100 more private water tankers out of which 50 tankers will be operated in Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, Karwan, Asifnagar and other areas.
Ten special officers have been given additional charge to monitor water supply mechanism across the city. Regarding suspension of water supply to defence and few industrial units in Sangareddy, Dana Kishore said alternative arrangements like supply of raw water through water tankers are being worked out.
