The Meteorological Department may have warned of scorching months ahead in Telangana, but the State government is all set to give the people a power cut-free summer.
The power utilities in the Telangana State will ensure that there are no load sheddings for the third consecutive year since the formation of Telangana in 2014. “The State will not have power cut even for a single second,” Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy told. The power utilities have already drawn up contingency plans to meet the peak demand this summer too, he said.
The power utilities’ focus is mainly on the peak season especially the crucial 45-day period commencing from March 15 for the agriculture sector on account of the Yasangi crops. Their plans are intended to help insulate the transmission and supply system from outages and power cuts.Asserting that power generation in the State was quite comfortable, the Minister said any
shortfall in demand and supply would be met far more efficiently, thanks to the advance planning of the TSTransco and the TSDiscoms.
Dispelling fears of power cuts in any form, the Minister assured all categories of consumers that it would be yet another year of comfortable power supply. “The power utilities, as a dress rehearsal, have tested their preparedness levels by meeting peak demand of 9002 MW recently,” he said, adding that at any point of time, they are ready to augment the supply to meet the maximum demand of 9500 MW or even more.
The Minister explained that the Discoms had been meeting a demand of 170 Million Units a day. Out of this, 130 million units was being supplied by the State’s own sources of generation such as Singareni, KTPS, and other Genco units and the Central Power Grid. Another 40 million units is being met through power purchases made from outside the State.
