The Telangana government on Tuesday released the salient features of the Rythu Bandhu Group Life Insurance Scheme for which a premium amount of Rs.1,925 per annum per member plus 18% GST has to be paid. On its part, the state government would pay Rs.2,271.50 for each member. In the event of a farmer’s death, the nominee will get the assured sum of Rs.5 lakh.
Pattadar passbook holders in Telangana in the age group of 18–59 years as on August15 2018 are eligible for the insurance. If a farmer gets enrolled in the scheme in the middle of a policy year, still the government would pay the premium for complete year. In case of insured farmers who lose
their land on account of any reason, the insured member will continue to get insurance coverage till the next annual renewal date.
“The objective is to provide financial relief to the family/dependents of the deceased farmer. In Telangana, majority of the farmers are small and marginal and farming is the sole source of livelihood for them,” the government said in a note.
The government will pay the premium on ad hoc basis to LIC on or before August 1 every year. The agriculture commissioner is designated as nodal agency to implement the scheme, which will be administered
