Khammam: A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against former Union Minister Renuka Chowdary by the Second Additional Junior Civil Judge over her non-appearance before the court in connection with a petition filed against her.
The judge, after hearing the case on Thursday, issued the NBW and posted the case for next hearing on September 26. The complainant, Bhukya Kalavathi of Mamillagudem in Khammam, filed a petition before the court alleging that Renuka Chowdary had collected a total of Rs 1.35 crore from them promising Congress ticket for her husband Bhukya Ramji Naik to contest from Wyra Assembly seat in 2009. But Chowdary failed to keep her promise and in due course of time, Ramji Naik had died,
following which Kalavathi and her family approached the Congress leader seeking return of the money she allegedly took from them.
However, Renuka Chowdary allegedly refused to repay and even abused them in the name of their caste and threatened them, the complaint said. She lodged a complaint with the Khanapuram Haveli police station where an FIR under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act, IPC Sections 420 and 506 was registered.
Renuka Chowdary failed to appear before the court for hearing in the case even after summons were issued. However, the advocate representing Chowdary said the complainant had misguided the court in issuing the NBW.
