Autos in twin cities will go off the road from Tuesday midnight in response to the one-day auto bandh call given in protest against the “conspiracy” of Ola and Uber cabs’ companies to indirectly force the poor auto drivers out of the city. The auto drivers demanded that the State government to immediately arrest Ola and Uber managements for illegally collecting less fares than auto-rickshaws.
JAC leaders Mohd Amanullah Khan, B Venkatesham, V Kiran, M A Saleem, A Satti Reddy and Mohd Habeeb, in a joint press statement, alleged that the ruling TRS had sold away the interests of the poor auto
drivers in favour of Ola and Uber companies and that was the reason why the State government was adopting a policy of silence in the matter.
They pointed out that the Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy had ordered the Transport Department to take stern action against the private illicit vehicles carrying bus passengers and thereby causing loss to RTC. Moreover, the government was not taking action against the Ola and Uber Cabs plying illegally by indulging in uneconomic competition resulting in deterioration of metered auto services violating section 67 of the MV Act, they added.
