A fire which broke out in Rohini Superspecialty Hospitals at Subedari in Hanamkonda on Monday claimed a life and injured two others critically.
The incident created a panic situation among the inmates of the hospitals, including about 190 patients. But the police and fire personnel, who rushed to the spot soon after the incident, were able to evacuate the patients.
Though the
exact cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the short circuit in the intensive care unit (ICU), which is located near the operation theatre, on the second floor of the three-storied hospital building caused the blast of the oxygen cylinders, spreading the fire and thick smoke. Heart patients and patients with pulmonary diseases suffered a lot due to suffocation caused by the smoke.
