This Vinayaka Chavithi, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao announced that one lakh clay idols will be distributed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and State Pollution Control Board. The Minister tweeted this announcement on Sunday.
Already, HMDA is making arrangements for providing eco-friendly Ganesha idols at discounted prices through residential welfare associations and voluntary bodies. Aimed at protection of the city water bodies, nearly 10,000 clay idols are to
be made available for citizens for the festivities that commence on August 24.
The HMDA has set into motion the process of procuring a large number of eco-friendly idols and has called for artisans and agencies prepared to supply them by August 18. The idols meant for installation in homes during the festival are to be of 8 inches size and made to specific model.
Eco-friendly Ganeshas have been a major initiative as it helps curtail the use of idols painted with metallic colours and possible pollution of lakes.
